Humanities Department
The Humanities Department offers a wide range of subjects including:
- History (KS3 / KS4)
- Geography (KS3 / KS4)
- Sociology (KS4)
We encourage students to engage and form opinions about the past, the physical world around them and the society they live in. This gives them knowledge and understanding of historical events and other important issues such as the environment and thought provoking debates such as racism, inequality and discrimination.
Successes within the department include Geography trips to locations as far as the Norfolk coast and more local places such as Westfield Shopping Centre. The aim is to enrich students’ awareness of places in and outside London. Within History, GCSE students have been part of a Jack the Ripper tour conducted in the East End of London to try and help them discover why he was never caught by the Victorian Metropolitan Police Force – a question that still puzzles historians today.
Sociology is a relatively new subject offered at GCSE level only and tackles controversial subjects that are relevant in any community – rising crime levels, feminism, and prejudice. It’s a perfect opportunity for students to tackle the most hotly debated topics in today’s modern society.
