Reaching Out to Our Community
In summer 2003 we were invited by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to lead the development of Extended School provision within the Authority. This meant we were the very first school in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea to become an Extended School and open its doors to the wider Community.
We have what is described as a core offer for those girls and adults who are part of the school but we also provided additional programmes for wider community participation including afternoon/evening classes for girls and adults. These sessions include The Activity Centre which provides both play and study opportunities for girls who may need to remain in school each day until 5.30 p.m. Supporting study and learning is a central tenet of school life and we have an Easter Revision Programme in school to help the Year 9 with their SATs and Year 11 girls with their GCSE revision. There are also homework clubs for different year groups and for those who may need some extra special help in learning.
These additional learning opportunities are but a few of what we offer. We also have dedicated programmes to enhance social skills and widen horizons beyond the normal day to day school curriculum during the Summer Holidays and Half Terms.
The transition from Primary to Secondary can be daunting
as it is a major change in the life of an 11 year old. Parents/guardians just as equally can find it
nerve wrecking. Our task is to ensure this
transition is as simple and pain free.
Our Community Learning Network is growing at a pace and we work in Partnership with the Royal Borough and other schools. Some potential girls may have already benefited from our Modern Foreign Languages Department and its teaching of Spanish and there are links developed with the Spanish School in Portobello Road for the GCSE girls.
The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea was successful in their lottery bid for Sport and Dance and we were selected as the site for a purpose built Dance and Fitness Studio at a cost over £1mll. Both will be opened shortly to our girls for after school programmes and then the next step will be utilisation by the wider Community.
